十九世紀 青花釉裏紅葫蘆形鼻煙壺

19th century

The double gourd-shaped bottle is densely painted in underglaze-blue with gourds growing from leafy branches all against a ground of thin foliage, several gourds randomly picked out in copper-red, the flat base left unglazed height 6.1 cm

Provenance: from a Dutch private collection acquired prior to the 1980's

Although blue and white porcelain bottles of similar form and decoration are known, examples with copper-red decoration are rare. Gourds represent fertility, abundance and luck, and snuff bottles were often inspired by their shape.
