19th century
The brushpot is elaborately carved in the round with a gathering of scholars in a mountainous landscape showing numerous scholars wearing straw hats on foot or on horseback climbing up a steep and winding mountain road with further scholars engaged in lively discussion while others have already arrived and resting in pavilions on the mountain top nestling amidst the wutong trees. Near the top a group of scholars is seen outside the gate in a stone wall leading to pavilions with tiled roofs. Halfway the road is an opensided stable where a row of horses are seen drinking and further horses resting outside. Overhanging clouds are encircling the rim.
