Usually depicted as two young boys, the Hehe Erxian, 和合二仙, are known as 'The Two Spirits of Harmony and Union'. The word he is a homonym for 'union', while erxian also means ''the two holy ones'.
According to legend, these figures were the Tang dynasty hermit monks Hanshan and Shide.
During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the twins were usually depicted holding an ox and a lotus stem.
