WF 105 A soapstone carving of a Luohan

十八/十九世紀 滑石羅漢像

18th/19th century

The well-carved figure is seated on a separate rock, his right arm is resting on his raised knee, while his right hand is supporting his chin. In his left hand on his lap he is holding a jewel. The face has a meditative expression with downcast eyes below the hair, moustache and eyebrows finely incised and painted in black pigment. He is dressed in a loose robe draped in naturalistic folds under a cape incised and gilded along the hem with gilt scrolling borders and with floral roundels, inset with coloured stones and coral. A dragon, half covered below the folds of his robe is climbing up his left arm looking up at his master.
The stone is of an attractive greenish brown colour with reddish areas.

時代：18/19世紀。

特徵：坐禪羅漢右手支頤，手肘放在曲起的右膝上，左手持一寶珠，一旁有龍昂首而視。羅漢雙目半歛，凝神細思，鬍鬚與眉毛細節精緻。長袍紋理生動，邊緣鎏金且鑲嵌彩石與珊瑚。塑像與其岩石形基座可分離。
