WBO 06 A large archaic bronze basin, pan

漢 青銅大盆

Han dynasty (206 BC-220AD)

The basin is of deep form with everted slightly incurved rim and is cast on the sides with three horizontal ribs below two taotie masks. The interior is cast in the centre with two fish, the base with a star-shaped medallion.

A Dutch private collection

Baron Docteur Ludo van Bogaert-Sheid was a world famous scientist who avidly collected early Chinese art. The collection was sold at Sotheby’s in 1990 and the proceeds were donated to the Born-Bunge Foundation in Antwerp.
