Signed Mao Chun, dated to the winter month of the Yisi year, corresponding to 1965

the compressed rectangular bottle with sloping shoulders and recessed foot painted on the inside with two girls seated on a stage, one holding a pair of scissors and a star cut from red paper, the other with a propaganda magazine, the reverse depicting a female ‘barefoot’ doctor attending to a young girl accompanied by her mother, the inscription in running script followed by a seal of the artist, glass stopper height 5.6 cm without stopper

Provenance: from a Dutch private collection acquired prior to the 1980's A famille-rose eggshell porcelain vase painted with a barefoot doctor and dating from the same period is illustrated in ‘Innovations and Creations, A Retrospect of 20th Century Porcelain from Jingdezhen’, Hong Kong, 2004, where it is mentioned that this was an exclusively contemporary, but highly popular subject during the Cultural Revolution.
