of rounded rectangular form, painted with a continuous scene of numerous butterflies hovering above chrysanthemum, the inscription below the shoulder preceded by the seal yin, glass stopper

A glass bottle signed Liu Shouben with similar decoration is illustrated by H. Hui in ‘An Addicted Dedication, Chinese Snuff Bottles, Christopher Sin’s Collection’, Vol. II, Hong Kong, 2013, pl. 128. The depiction of numerous butterflies can be associated with the auspicious meaning ‘Happy Day’ (huantian xidi).
