A carved silhouette agate snuff bottle

18th/19th century

the well hollowed rounded rectangular bottle with concave lip and recessed foot skillfully carved on one side utilizing the brownish black markings to depict a hawk perched on a rock and a bird in flight below a tree growing from under the rock, the reverse left undecorated showing the natural dark markings, the translucent stone of pale honey-brown colour, coral stopper

height 5.5 cm without stopper
